HOW TO WRITE A CURRICULUM VITAE
The Following pages will give guidelines on how to write a CV and Cover letter, tips for successful interviews, how to “dress for success” and samples of interview questions you might be asked. Please read it carefully and make sure you have prepared yourself well before the Career Development Conference.
Curriculum Vitae (CV) / Resume
CV is an abbreviation for curriculum vitae. It is a brief and detailed document that gives the Recruiter/HR person a summary of your contact details, educational background (including period of completion), work experience (including length of stay on the job), any achievements, and language and computer skills.

Refer to the sample CVs/Resume on the next pages for further details. Please note that CV/Resume writing has different styles which vary from one person or organization to another. Therefore, choose the simplest or most suitable style for you.
Purpose:
• Give a detailed summary of educational background and work experience
• Should be easy for the Recruiter/HR to locate the needed information
• Should have a clear format or layout
• Avoid the use of jargon
• Use clear and concise language
• Use of action words (dynamic verbs)
• Check for grammatical errors, punctuation, spelling mistakes, etc. What are the do’s and don’ts in CV/Resume writing?
Do’s:
• Be positive
• Emphasize and underline the key words
• Honesty is a key issue
• Update your CV with all current educational or work experiences
• Check for spelling and grammatical mistakes
• Be concise and to the point
Don’ts:
